Q. How do I dispose of the catch? A. This is the beauty of The Mouse Depot. It is entirely your choice since the visitor is neither harmed nor killed. We recommend that you take the trap with the visitor safely housed inside the trap and release it at least 500 feet from your residence. Releasing is easy, you simply slide the cover back while tilting the trap forward and the mouse will jump or run out. Q. What is the recommended best bait? A. Peanut butter about the size of a dime. Q. How often should the trap be checked? A. We recommend every 6-8 hours, in keeping with the humane purpose of the trap. If a mouse is left inside the trap for over 24 hours, they will die a slow death due to dehydration, as they need water to survive. Q. Where should traps be set? A. Never set traps in an open area. Set traps in either a dark place, in a corner, or next to a wall in areas where mouse "tracks" (droppings) are apparent. Q. Is the trap reusable? A. Definitely! After releasing a captured mouse, wash the trap with liquid detergent and then rinse it with warm water to get rid of the soap residue. Finally, add a small amount of bait and set-up for the next visitor. Q. Can I clean the trap in a dishwasher? A. No, the heat generated by the drying cycle could deform the specially formulated plastic housing. Q. How large a mouse can I catch? A. Since mice have no bone structures, they can get through an opening as narrow as a dime. The Mouse Depot will NOT catch rats, as they are too big and are likely to break the teeter. Q. Is the trap safe? A. As with any trapped animal, you must use common sense. Wild animals get very scared and are possibly hungry and thirsty after being captured for a while. Therefore, you must use caution when releasing the mouse by keeping fingers out of the way and allowing the "escapee" plenty of room to run free. |
